🌿Slow worms safely relocated to Harold’s Park Wildland đŸ

The team from Nattergal and Urban Edge Environmental Consulting release the first slow worms a Harold’s Park Wildland

We're very happy to have partnered with Bellway and Urban Edge Environmental Consulting to support the relocation of slow worms from the former Harold Wood Hospital site in Romford to our rewilding site in Essex – Harold’s Park Wildland.

These legless lizards – not worms as their name would have you believe - love woodland edges and grassland habitats, which we offer in abundance at Harold’s Park.

Three purpose-built hibernacula were constructed from materials on site and, over the course of five weeks and numerous visits, a good mix of adult and juvenile individuals were released into the Wildland.

The move reflects Bellway’s BNG+ promise – a commitment to exceed minimum requirements and deliver meaningful outcomes for nature and communities.

“Our partnership with Nattergal demonstrates that a strategic and collaborative approach can have a significant impact on enhancing biodiversity.”
— Neil Beamsley, Bellway’s Group Head of Biodiversity

We’re delighted to have offered a home to these wonderful reptiles and we’ll continue to monitor their abundance and their spread across the site.
