My Nattergal Summer Internship: Experiences and Learnings

Honor at High Fen Wildland

by Honor Burgess

With my Digital Marketing Summer Internship at Nattergal coming to a close, I’ve been reflecting on what a truly enriching and inspiring journey this summer has been. As someone who has always been passionate about storytelling, particularly stories rooted in nature, landscape, and the outdoors, this opportunity felt like a natural extension of my passion, bridging my transition from the motor industry to the outdoor sector. It has allowed me to grow professionally, creatively and personally.

What initially drew me to Nattergal was its bold, forward-thinking approach to Nature restoration. I was captivated by the organisation’s vision for large-scale Nature restoration and its commitment to reconnecting people with wild landscapes.

Throughout my internship, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to a range of meaningful projects. One of the most fulfilling experiences has been exploring Nattergal’s wildland sites, observing the rewilding process firsthand and transforming those moments into compelling content that helps share the organisation’s story with the wider world.

Over the course of my internship, I have crafted Nattergal’s digital presence on Instagram, helping the organisation reach over 35,000 new accounts in just six weeks. I have created social media assets and visual content that highlighted Nattergal's mission and brought the landscapes to life online. In addition to creative work, I provided administrative and project support, contributing to the smooth and effective delivery of new initiatives.

This internship has taught me to become more intentional in my communication with every little detail. But more than anything, I’ve seen what it means to be part of a purpose-driven team, one that is not only ambitious and visionary, but also deeply committed to making a difference in the Nature restoration sector.

As I prepare to wrap up my time at Nattergal, I feel incredibly grateful for the experiences, the mentorship and the clarity this opportunity has given me. I leave with a sharpened skillset, a deeper sense of purpose and a renewed commitment to pursuing work that is meaningful, creative and rooted in impact.
